Want to connect your Mac's Entourage software to the DOE Email?

From a communication with Matthew Valia who got it working, here are instructions:

Citywide school technology staff:

Don’t worry, I used BCC.

In order to get your Entourage email to work on the Mac from home, you must use the following exchange account settings:

Personal information:
type your username
type your @schools.nyc.gov email address

account information:
account ID: type your email prefix
Domain: leave blank
password: type your password

leave Kerberos blank

Exchange server:
mail.nycboe.net
(if you successfully set this up on VLAN2, before you try it at home, the server will assign you a server number. Delete this and type mail.nycboe.net)
place a check on SSL connection
leave the DAV override blank

From what I hear from a few of you, these settings work on the iPhone as well.

If you use MobileMe (.mac), Entourage will sync your email and calendars with the iPhone/mac mail/iCal

I think it will work on VLAN1 if you take off the proxy settings.

However, if you are blessed with a Mac, you can plug in an ethernet wire and get VLAN2 and have wireless pickup VLAN1 and everything works perfectly. At home and at school, its great without having to change anything.

And it works great with the iPhone!

Tech coordinators: Have the school staff send you an email with the computer problems instead of putting a note in your mailbox or calling you. This way, you get a buzz in your pocket with an issue and a to-do list in your inbox on your iPhone. I like this because you don't have phone calls interrupting your lessons!
